Freetrade offers commission-free stock trading and investment accounts aimed at Millennial investors. We first partnered in 2017 to build the brand and recently reunited to refresh it; a response to both market and product development.
Countdown to Relaunch
With a goal to develop a brand identity that better reflects the sophistication and excitement of the product they’ve built, we worked towards an identity that feels more immersive, scalable, and communicates the promise of Freetrade’s investment technology.
Defining the new dawn of investing
Drawing from the concept of a horizon, the system uses expressive gradients inspired by sunrise and sunset to mark a financial future full of potential. Built from the hero gradient, the digital palette offers vibrant and distinctive colorways, coming to life through cinematic animation reminiscent of aurora displays and planetary movement. Paired with confident and elegant typefaces, we created a graphic language that feels simultaneously futuristic and optimistic.
Building the control panel
Leaning on color theory, we built a digital system that integrates seamlessly into both Freetrade’s iconic dark mode and light mode. The data and UI components reflect elements of control panels, offering contemporary, yet technical details that give the brand a more mature presence. The shimmery glow applied to corner elements adds a unique light source effect, pulling from the elegant gradients to add refined and crafted details wherever possible.
Creating a new universe
To build a truly robust and scalable brand, we developed a design system that flexes across the Freetrade website, app and all marketing material. Through illuminated, 3D illustrations that feel celestial in nature and UI moments that reflect the energy of space, we created a graphic language that feels as bold, exciting, and visionary as the business behind it.
